Therapists
Annie
(Massage)
Whether you are looking for relief for a medical condition, requiring a method to help deal with the stresses of daily life or simply enthusiastic about maintaining good health, Massage Therapy can be of tremendous benefit to you in all these respects.
Research shows that massage helps to:
- Reduce heart rate
- Decrease blood pressure
- Relaxes muscles, to release more endorphins (the body's natural pain killer)
- Increase circulation of blood and lymph (the body's defense system)
- Increase range of motion in joints, improve function of the muscular, skeletal, and nervous systems
- Improve the rate at which the body recovers from illness or injury, help you to feel less stressed and anxious - yet alert-
- Enhance many medical treatments.
Although therapeutic massage is not known to increase muscle strength, it can help to stimulate weak inactive muscles to improve the poor muscle quality that results from lack of exercise and activity during illness or injury. Therapeutic massage can often help where traditional medicine has been unsuccessful (ex: chronic headaches, fibromyalgia, chronic arthritis to name a few); however, if you have a diagnosed medical condition, make sure to check with your doctor first to see if massage therapy is not contraindicated before making an appointment.
My training and breadth of clinical practice has facilitated a broad development in my approach to your massage session. I enjoy creating a deeply relaxing "non-therapeutic" (all massage is in fact highly therapeutic!) treatment as much as working more 'deeply'. Incidentally: A correct term would be, more eloquently or more precisely rather than deep. Making a difference rarely requires breaking down and pulling and stretching your muscle tissue.
I am working with you at your pace, not working on you or at you! Any discomfort experienced is always counter-balanced by soothing and relaxing, which is vital to allow the changes brought about to settle in to your body. How you will feel immediately after your session is subjective and dependant upon your general health, lifestyle and mental state at the time of your treatment. You could feel completely energised , or like you need to have a nap. The 100% guarantee is that you will feel more relaxed and that feeling will allow more energy for your daily activities, enhance your sense of well being and most likely positively influence the way you communicate and interact with the people in your life. Like anything else, practice makes perfect so you can expect to gain greater benefit and longer lasting effects by making massage a regular part of your health maintenance.
Denise
(Shiatsu)
Before I entered Complementary Medicine, I worked for 13 years in the legal field but had to give up legal secretarial work due to developing work related musculo-skeletal disorders and so am fully aware of the stresses and strains both physical and mental, that can be encountered in an office environment. Having been in that situation I can sympathise if you have similar kinds of problems, as my own injuries were quite severe and ranging from tight cervical facets to ulna and median nerve entrapment including problems with the whole upper body musculature.
My approach with you is to treat you in a professional but friendly and relaxed way. I encourage your feedback during and after the treatments. This helps us both create a treatment that is highly individualised and one that also involves you in gaining a sense of control and responsibility for your own health. I can give dietary recommendations from the oriental viewpoint and teach you relevant exercises to enhance the benefits of your treatment session.
